F. Skip Sugarman focuses his practice on sophisticated business litigation in a variety of areas. He has nearly a decade of experience handling complex cases in federal and state courts throughout Georgia and the United States representing both companies and individuals involved in a variety of different types of litigation. He has served as lead counsel in cases involving breach of restrictive covenants, misappropriation of trade secrets, and business torts, such as breach of fiduciary duty and duty of loyalty; lead trial counsel in a valuation proceeding involving the judicially determined value of shares in a publicly traded company; lead counsel defending a hedge fund in multiple cases involving claims of fraud, breach of contract, and other tort claims with millions of dollars in alleged damages; lead counsel in numerous cases involving claims under the federal employment statutes such as Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act. He also has significant experience handling cases involving fiduciary claims in the context of wills, trusts and estate planning.
Skip graduated cum laude from Washington and Lee University in 1991 and received his law degree from the Georgia State University College of Law, summa cum laude, in 1996. While in law school, Skip served as the Lead Articles Editor of the Georgia State University Law Review, received numerous awards for academic achievement, and published two law review articles. After law school, Skip served as a law clerk for the Honorable Jack T. Camp of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia and then for the Honorable Frank M. Hull of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. After his clerkships, he practiced law with the Atlanta law firm of Alston & Bird LLP where he focused on employment litigation. Georgia Trend magazine recently named Skip as one of the state’s Legal Elite.
